Omar Syed joined Mumtalakat in February 2021 as Chief Investment Officer – Strategic Investments. Prior to Mumtalakat, Omar was Senior Vice President at DICO Group, focused on the family office’s private equity investments.

Omar brings over 25 years of experience in the field of private equity and investment management with a proven track record of fund raising, deal origination and execution, and active portfolio management across diverse sectors in the US, Europe, MENA, Turkey, and South Asia as well as the restructuring and turnaround of a number of portfolio companies across these markets.

 During the span of his career, he has worked actively in Executive Management and Board roles across multiple organisations in the public and private sectors, previously holding managements positions at Abraaj Capital, American Capital and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as well as Board roles at Netlog, Hepsiburada and Piper Aircraft. 

 He currently serves on the boards of McLaren Group, McLaren Racing, Aluminimum Bahrain (Alba), Bahrain Food Holding Company and Gulf Cryo. In addition to being a CA and CFA charter holder, Omar holds a Masters degree in Accounting from Concordia University and a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Management from McGill University, Canada.  He has also completed the International Board and Governance Certification program from INSEAD. He was recognized by Concordia as part of their “50 Under 50” for his contributions to the global investment sector.
